LOA INCLUDED FROM FAMILY THAT HAD HAT IN THEIR POSSESSION FOR DECADES
Presented here is a historic treasure for football collectors, especially the Alabama faithful, Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant’s well-worn houndstooth hat. The black and white plaid design, small red feather, and crisscross pattern on its external band matches the houndstooth hats worn by Bryant on the sidelines throughout his long career leading the Crimson Tide.
The cap has a Bryant facsimile signature on the inside band and "THE ORIGINAL PAUL BEAR BRYANT" logo surrounding a B inside this size 7 1/2 model. Although, we cannot place an definitive date as to the game or season in which Bryant donned this particular hat, the most logical range would be in the mid-to late 1970's. Our LOA from the consignor, who's grandfather was a longtime friend of Coach Bryant and the original recipient of the hat, states it was given to the family in the late 1970's.
Bryant coached through 1982 and passed away in 1983.
