NFL Hall of Fame running back Tony Dorsett of the Dallas Cowboys was also one of the greatest rushers in college football history. A three-time First-Team All-America selection at the University of Pittsburgh, Dorsett led the Panthers in rushing each of his four seasons and finished his collegiate career with 6,082 yards on the ground, then an NCAA record. It was during his senior campaign in the fall of 1976 when Dorsett turned in his finest season. With 370 carries, he racked up a personal best 2,150 yards rushing (5.8 yards per carry) and 22 touchdowns. Not only was Dorsett lighting up the gridiron and walking away with the Heisman Trophy, but the Pitt Panthers were on their way to the school’s first NCAA Division I football championship after going undefeated (12-0) under the tutelage of head coach Johnny Majors. This is one of Dorsett’s signed and game-worn circa 1976 Pittsburgh jerseys. The cotton Russell Athletic No. 33 jersey (size L) shows significant game-action marks, dirt, scrapes and tears, and is completely torn along the bottom and includes a significant one-foot-long rip up the right side. The jersey includes Dorsett’s last name machine-stamped on the back with his uniform No. 33 in navy blue with a yellow outline adorning the front, back and both sets of sleeves. Dorsett has signed the back of the jersey in green felt marker right above his uniform number and right below his name. The signature, which includes #33, is clearly legible.
