It was Saturday, September 28, the last day of the 1974 season. Nolan Ryan took the mound for the night game against the visiting Minnesota Twins, sitting on 21 wins and leading the league in strikeouts with 352 already to his name. Now, to cap off another marvelous season, Ryan rose to the occasion by tossing his 3rd career no-hitter. The California Angels ace walked eight but also struck out 15 Twinkies in the 4-0 blanking. He finishes with 367 K's and 202 walks (both the 2nd highest totals of his career) and nabbed his career-best 22nd win of the season.

These two lineup cards for the home and visiting team were used by home plate umpire Art Franz, who had the best seat in the house for the historic game. The Angels home white card has been signed by Halos skipper Dick Williams and contains no substitutions. The blue visiting team lineup card is signed by Twins manager Frank Quilici and notes several substitutions during the game. The cards show light edge wear and light toning with a horizontal crease through each one. The back of each card has a pencil notation “Umpires Lineup Cd Ryan’s 3rd No-Hitter" done presumably by Franz. Truly a one-of-a-kind and historic piece.
