Boxing's Joe Louis, known as "The Brown Bomber", was able to transcend sports and race to become a favorite of the American people.
After emerging on to the scene in 1937, Mr. Louis had the longest single reign as champion of any boxer in history. Louis' cultural impact was felt well outside the ring. He is widely regarded as the first person of African-American descent to achieve the status of a "nationwide hero" within the United States and signifiant in both sports and civil-rights.
Presented here is a unique sketch of Louis, artist unknown, but signed and dated by the boxing legend.THe sketch measures 9" X 12" and is matted and framed, the overall piece measuring 14" X 17 1/2".
The autograph is bold and his penmanship has been authenticated with a JSA LOA.
