Featured here is a lovely medal commemorating a friendly match on March 5, 2014 between Brazil and South Africa at FNB Stadium in Johannesbure -- site of the 2010 World Cup Final and where Nelson Mandela made his first speech to the South African people upon his release from prison in 1990. The game was a tune-up held a few months prior to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil featuring the host nations from the previous and subsequent World Cups. Brazil cruised to a 5-0 victory as Neymar recorded a hat trick. Each Brazilian player, coach and important staff member received one of these medals.
The front is inscribed “SOUTH AFRICA VS. BRAZIL”, “5 MARCH 2014”, and “20 YEARS OF FREEDOM”; the reverse has “SOUTH AFRICAN FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION” under the FIFA logo. The medal (diameter 51 mm; weight 70 g) seems to be made of high-quality silver or bronze with gold-plating. The rare medal made specifically for one match presents NM and comes with its original black presentation box. Includes LOA from Brazil National Team's technical coordinator.
