Lee Smith, a former baseball closer, left an indelible mark on the sport before retiring in 1997. Holding the record for the most saves at the time of his retirement, Smith's career spanned 18 years and saw him play for various teams including the Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, California Angels, Cincinnati Reds, and Montreal Expos. Drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the second round of the 1975 MLB Amateur Draft, Smith made his debut on September 1, 1980, as a member of the "Northsiders." Throughout his career, he established himself as a dominant force on the mound, earning a reputation as one of the game's premier closers. After hanging up his cleats, Smith remained involved in baseball as a coach in the San Francisco Giants farm system. His experience and expertise made him a valuable asset to the organization, and he served as a roving pitching instructor. In 2013, Smith had the privilege of being part of the coaching staff for the Arizona League Giants, a team that secured the Championship title that year. To commemorate this achievement, Smith was presented with a special ring. The ring features an interlocking "SF" design at the top, with cz stones adorning the letters and surrounding them. The words "ARIZONA LEAGUE" and "CHAMPIONS" encircle the top of the ring, along with two additional cz stones for added flair. The left shank of the ring proudly displays "2013 AZL ARIZONA LEAGUE" and "41-14" in raised relief, symbolizing the team's successful season. On the opposite shank, Smith's name and the iconic Giants logo are also raised in relief. While the ring shows some signs of tarnish due to its age, it remains a treasured memento of Smith's time with the Arizona League Giants. Sized at 15, the ring weighs approximately 42.50 grams, and its authenticity is confirmed by a Letter of Authenticity (LOA) from Lee Smith himself. Lee Smith's contributions to baseball, both as a player and coach, have left an enduring legacy. His record-breaking career and championship-winning coaching stint make him a revered figure in the sport's history. The ring he received as a member of the Arizona League Giants serves as a tangible reminder of his achievements and the impact he had on the game.
