After he burst on the scene in 2008 as a flame-throwing 20-year old, it did not take long for Clayton Kershaw to become the best pitcher in baseball. From 2011-2014, all the Dodger lefty did was win three Cy Youngs and an MVP while having the lowest ERA in the Majors each season. This lot features Kershaw’s game-worn road jersey from his 2008 rookie season. He went 5-5 that year and collected an even 100 strikeouts. The button-down gray jersey has “Los Angeles” in Dodger blue across the chest with his No. “22” in red. The reverse has “KERSHAW” and “22” stitched directly on the Cool Base fabric in blue tackle twill. Kershaw began his rookie season wearing No. 54 but switched to No. 22 by mid-season. The Los Angeles 50th Anniversary patch is sewn on the right sleeve with the LA logo on the left sleeve. The lower front tail has the “Majestic Authentic Collection size 50” patch along with a white “PROPERTY OF THE LOS ANGELES DODGERS 2008” tag. Inside the jersey is a “50” size tag with a “0063R” code that further authenticates the jersey as player-issued. The shirt shows moderate wear and comes all-original. We sold a Kershaw rookie road gamer in our Fall 2014 Premier Auction for $13,800. This exact jersey sold for $11,850 at another auction house more recently, with a letter from Dave Miedema that has been accurately verified.
