By 1999, the 23-year-old Tiger Woods had won a Masters and PGA Tournament, but so far, the U.S. Open eluded him. This Type 1 photo was snapped of the young Tiger playing at the 1999 Open. Woods and Vijay Singh were both in contention but bogeyed late in their final rounds and finished tied for third to Payne Stewart and runner-up Phil Mickelson. Though countless images of Tiger Woods in action were taken, very few Type 1 prints exist due to the switch from traditional print to digital that occurred early in his career. This rarity makes this early image even more desirable to collectors. The well composed image has been printed to its edges and displays only slight surface wear. The reverse of the photo has the Agfaphoto paper hallmarks and “99 U.S. Open” handwritten in black marker. The photograph measures 8” x 10” and has been encapsulated and graded a Type 1 by PSA.
