The 1998 San Diego Padres ran away from the rest of the NL West, taking the division by 9-1/2 games and winning a franchise-best 98 games in the regular season. After knocking off the Astros in four games in the NLDS and getting past the Braves in six in the NLCS, the Pads went up against that juggernaut from the Bronx. Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be for Tony Gwynn, Ken Caminiti, Greg Vaughn, Trevor Hoffman and company as they were swept by the Yankees in the Fall Classic.

Offered here is a player's version of a San Diego Padres 1998 National League Champions ring. Made of 14-karat gold ring with real diamonds spelling out "SD" on the face set atop a dark blue stone (glare makes it look black online) surrounded by "PADRES NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS". Only player rings have two diamonds flanking "PADRES" on the face as this one does. The right shank has "1998" and the team's "98-64" record with the Padres friar logo in the middle. The left shank has "Gwynn 19" and the National League trophy. Inside the band is stamped with a Jostens logo and "14K". Ring size is 11 and weight is 42 grams. Apparently, this ring was initially issued to Gwynn and then returned to Jostens for a different version without the team record on the side. It has all the correct stampings of a player's ring.
