ADDENDUM: The seasons in which Seau wore the jersey have been updated.
The late Junior Seau was the heart and soul of the San Diego Chargers football team for 15 seasons. The hard-hitting linebacker led by example on the field and served as a motivational teammate off the field. This lot features his game worn San Diego Chargers jersey and pants used between 1997 and 1999.
The Starter Pro Line white mesh jersey shows moderate use and includes proper manufacturer’s tagging on the left front tail alongside a pair of flag tags reading “52” and “L.” A separate white cloth tag has been sewn onto the jersey next to the Starter tag reading “97,” which indicates the first season he wore the garment. Seau’s iconic number “55” has been heat-pressed in navy blue on the front and back of the jersey and is outlined in yellow. The Chargers patented lightning bolt in white adorns both sleeves outlined in yellow and blue. The official NFL embroidered patch appears at the base of the V-neck collar. His last name – “SEAU” – appears across the back of the shoulders in navy blue on a separate, sewn-on white mesh nameplate. A washing instructions tag appears on the inside left seam. (Note: A pair of “Adidas” embroidered patches have been sewn on top of the original embroidered Starter logos on either sleeve. Adidas took over for Starter as the Chargers official jersey manufacturer in 1999.)
The accompanying navy blue Adidas zip-up pants show light-to-moderate game use and include a pair of tags on the inside crotch area: “Ripon [size] 36” and “99” to indicate the season in use. The Chargers lightning bolt appears in white down either side of the pants and is outlined in yellow. Seau’s jersey number “55” appears in black marker on the inside front waistband. The official NFL embroidered logo patch appears on the left thigh area. The Chargers wore their navy pants and white jerseys together predominantly on the road. We are unsure if this is a matching set.
