The 1991–92 season was Mark Messier's first in New York, having arrived from the Edmonton Oilers via trade on October 5, 1991. He scored 35 goals and 72 assists for 107 points, winning his second Hart Memorial Trophy as the league's Most Valuable Player. This is Messier’s autographed and game-worn Rangers home white jersey from that season. The 100% nylon CCM mesh jersey includes “RANGERS” in blue-and-red diagonal tackle twill fashion across the front, while the proper CCM tag is located on the inside back collar. Light to moderate game-action wear is exhibited by way of stick marks and puck marks on the lower front as well as some transfer marks on the lower portions of both sleeves. There is obvious perspiration discoloration underneath the arms. His last name “MESSIER” is affixed in a semi-circle pattern of blue tackle twill letters outlined in red across the back, just above the No. 11, which is also in blue tackle twill outlined in red. Messier has signed the jersey in two places: in black fine point marker on the back, on the white mesh, right in between the No. 11, and again on the front of the jersey just beneath the Rangers team name. He’s added “NYR” as an inscription just beneath his last name of the signature on the back. The NHL's 75th Anniversary patch adorns the front of the jersey, right above the left side of the chest. The jersey is accompanied by a signed LOA from Messier himself on New York Rangers letterhead dated February 13, 1992 with its original matching New York Rangers transmittal envelope with the NHL 75th Anniversary logo. This is a significant hockey jersey given Messier's outstanding personal statistics that season and primary source documentation. Includes LOA from Mark Messier.
Includes a letter of provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.
