One of the top shooting guards of his era, Joe Dumars was an All-Star caliber player throughout most of his 14-year NBA career. He played his entire career with the Detroit Pistons leading them to two NBA Championships. Dumars earned the reputation of being a defensive stalwart and a serious offensive threat but it was his MVP performance in the 1989 NBA Finals that cemented his legacy and earned his place on the Mt. Rushmore of Detroit Pistons greats.

In a post-season performance few Pistons fans will forget Dumars led Detroit in a romp through the 1989 Eastern Conference Playoffs, setting up a rematch with the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1989 NBA Finals. In the Finals Dumars averaged 27.3 ppg, leading the Pistons to a four-game sweep of the Lakers and their first-ever NBA Championship. He was an easy choice for NBA Finals MVP.

Presented to Dumars in recognition of this honor, this massive trophy measures 9-1/2 x 9-1/2 x 24 inches. A black base supports a silver basketball on top. An engraved plaque on front reads "Sport Magazine Most Valuable Player Award National Basketball Association 1989-1990 Finals Joe Dumars Detroit Pistons". A Balfour sticker is affixed on the bottom. There is some wood separation on front and back, but the trophy retains an impressive appearance commensurate with the historic achievement it symbolizes.
