Vinnie “The Microwave” Johnson was a pivotal player for the Detroit Pistons during their back-to-back title runs in the late 1980’s. The 6-foot-2-inch shooting guard played for the Pistons from 1981 to 1991, but really made a name for himself during the team’s two successful runs in the NBA Finals. This lot features Johnson’s 1988-89 autographed and game worn Detroit Pistons road jersey, season in which he averaged 25.3 minutes and 13.8 points per game for the Bad Boys from Motown. It also marked the first of two consecutive NBA championships for Detroit.

On the jersey’s left front tail is the proper “MacGregor Sand-Knit [size] 44” manufacturer’s tag alongside “88” and “2” LB” white strip tags. Directly above the Sand-Knit tag is the “Designed & Tailored Exclusively for the Detroit Pistons” label. The front of the jersey reads “PISTONS” with his uniform number “15” appearing on both the front and back with all numbers and letters painted on in red with blue borders. His last name – “JOHNSON” – appears across the back in blue painted in block letters. On the left breast is the NBA’s official embroidered red, white and blue logo. Johnson has signed the front of the jersey in black marker and added “#15” just beneath his signature.
