Former big league slugger Mark McGwire burst upon the MLB scene in 1987 with the Oakland Athletics by launching a rookie record 49 home runs. “Big Mac” continued his assault on fastballs over the next 15 seasons and wound up hitting a total of 583 round-trippers by the time he retired following the 2001 season. This lot features a 1987 Mark McGwire rookie-era Louisville Slugger professional model game-used bat. Measuring 34.5” long, the bat is composed of top quality ash and shows game use with ball, cleat and bat racks marks spread throughout the barrel. The model number "R161" has been stamped on the barrel just above his engraved last name “McGWIRE” and his uniform number “25” has been written in black sharpie across the knob. A great game bat used from McGwire’s rookie season when he earned American League Rookie of the Year honors.

Part of the esteemed Delbert Mickel estate collection.
