The 1987-88 season was a special one for Michael Jordan as he won his first NBA Most Valuable Player Award. Coming off a previous campaign in which he averaged a career-high 37 points, “His Airness” put up 35 per game to win his second straight scoring title. He shot 53.5% from the field and 84.1% from the line, and tallied 5.9 assists and 5.5 rebounds in his fourth season with the Chicago Bulls. Another first for Jordan in ’87-88 was being named Defensive Player of the Year as he added a league-best 3.2 steals along with 1.6 blocks. It would be the only year MJ claimed that honor; he would be voted league MVP four more times before his legendary 15-year career was done. To top off the individual accolades, Jordan dazzled his hometown Chicago fans at the 1988 All-Star game. He won a thrilling Slam Dunk Contest, earning a perfect score of 50 with that memorable dunk from the free-throw line. Then, he went out and led the East to victory with a 40-point performance to take home All-Star MVP honors. The Bulls improved ten games from the prior year with a 50-32 regular season record, ultimately bowing out to the eventual champion “Bad Boys” from Detroit in the playoffs.

A deep breath is needed after such introduction to present Michael Jordan’s spectacular Chicago Bulls game-worn home uniform from his sensational ’87-88 campaign. MEARS has blessed this set with a perfect A10 grade. The white mesh jersey comes in size 44 with accurate MacGregor Sand-Knit tagging on the front left tail, denoting the size and "Designed and Tailored Exclusively for the Chicago Bulls." Adjacent are “87” year and “3’’ LB” (extra length) strip tags. The front of the jersey has "BULLS" along with Jordan's iconic "23" screen-pressed in red with black outline. His number is done in the same format on the reverse, only larger, with “JORDAN” arched in red. The collar and armpits are trimmed in red with black and white striping. The NBA embroidered logo patch is found on the left upper chest. The jersey shows excellent game use, with stretching in the collar and light pilling in certain areas of the fabric.

The matching white trunks come in size 36 and are properly tagged inside the waistband by MacGregor Sand-Knit, with “23” hand-marked in black pen (perhaps by equip. manager) on the manufacturer’s label. Four adjacent strip tags line the back of the waistband, reading “87”, “23”, “2’’ HR”, and “2’’LI”. On the front of the shorts are two Bulls logos applied to each thigh, with the NBA logo patch on the lower right. The outer waistband and short ends are trimmed in red with a black and white striping that wraps around the two team logos. The shorts display wear consistent with the jersey. Such a treat to offer this incredible set to the market.

Letter from MEARS graded A10. Additional LOA from notable Chicago Bulls memorabilia collector Alan Meza.
