This jersey was worn by Mark McGwire during his All-America year at the University of Southern California in 1984, foreshadowing a major league career to come that would rewrite the home run record books and leave a generation of fans shaking their heads over the remarkable battle between McGwire and Sammy Sosa more than a dozen years later. The jersey blazes with Trojan yellow knit fabric, accented by the famed Cardinal and gold. A Size 46 Rawlings manufacturer's label appears on the front right tail; "Trojans" is across the chest in Cardinal red tackle twill, same as on his No. 42 on the back. The knit collar and sleeves are accented also with Cardinal red; the jersey shows game use and remains essentially as issued and problem free. McGwire has added a handsome black marker autograph on the left breast above the team name, adding the inscriptions "USC" and "1984."
Includes a Letter of Authenticity from the University of Southern California and a Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum Collection.
Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
