Designed by the great Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dali, this near-complete set of .999 fine silver commemorative coins was commissioned by the United States Olympic Committee for the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics. A complete set contains sculpted reliefs of Dali’s unique interpretations of 11 Olympic events. This lot has 9 of 11 (missing just soccer and boxing). Included are gymnastics, equestrian, cycling, skiing, pole vault, basketball, diving, discus and archery. The uncirculated coins are each 1.5 troy ounces (46 grams) and 46 mm in diamater. Each coin was originally sold for $125-a-piece. All nine are encased in theor original Lucite holders and come mostly VF-EF condition.
