As a youngster growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1980's, who did Tom Brady look up to? This guy. Before being surpassed decades later by Brady's off the charts accomplishments, Joe Montana was perhaps the greatest quarterback of all time, and still always in the discussion. Montana was dominant throughout the 1980's and therefore his Topps 1981 rookie card is incredibly popular among fans and collectors.
Strangely, the Joe Montana rookie card was not released until his third year of professional play. He was a late bloomer in the NFL, but in 1981 he started every game and led the 49ers to one of its most successful seasons to date, going 13-3, a prelude to future greatness.
With Montana's college success at Notre Dame and Super Bowl crowns with the 49ers, this understated legend's rookie edition in a high grade is a must have for any serious football card collector. We just love this card's elegant simplicity. Wow!
As of this writing, in PSA's Population Report there are only (109) Joe Montana rookie's in a 10 out of a population of 18,125 graded cards, so obviously quite scarce. A Joe Montana rookie in a PSA 10 comes along about as often as a talent like... Joe Montana. Which means hardly ever!
