Before he became a World Series hero with the Boston Red Sox in 1975, right-hander Luis “El Tiante” Tiant was a hard-throwing pitcher for first the Cleveland Indians (1964 to ’69) and then the Minnesota Twins for a single season in 1970. This lot includes Tiant’s autographed and game-worn 1970 Minnesota Twins game-worn road jersey. That season, starting just 17 games, Tiant posted a record of 7-3 with an even 50 K’s to his credit. He would wind up with 229 victories and 2,416 strikeouts over the course of his 19-year MLB career.

The gray flannel jersey offered here shows wear and includes the "Spalding" manufacturer’s label tag on the left front tail. Right above that, chain-stitched directly into the jersey in blue, is “Tiant 33 44 70 Set 2” indicating player, uniform number, size, year and set number. On the inside collar of the jersey is stitched "Tiant" in navy blue onto a sewn-on gray nameplate. The distinctive “Twins” team name flashes across the front of the jersey in navy blue tackle twill outlined in white. The same holds true for Tiant’s uniform number “33” on the back of the jersey. Noticeable puckering and some fraying is evident around the letters and number. He autographed the jersey on the left front tail in black felt-tip marker and added the inscription: “El Tiante.” The signature rates 7-8/10 in our book. The Minnesota Twins iconic patch Minneapolis - St. Paul adorns the left sleeve

Autograph pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
