In 1970, the Los Angeles Dodgers finished in second place in the National League West with a record of 87-74, 14.5 games behind the Cincinnati Reds. A year later they duplicated their N.L. West finish in the standings, albeit with a record of 89-73, just one game behind the triumphant San Francisco Giants. The manager of these Dodger teams was Walter Alston, the franchise’s longtime skipper. This lot includes a pair of Dodgers’ team-signed balls from those two campaigns. Alston’s signature in blue ink appears on both balls’ sweet spots, while other notable signatures in blue ink on the official 1970 National League (Giles) baseball include: Bill Russell, Manny Mota, Wes Parker, Willie Davis and Jim Brewer. The 1971 ball is an official National League (Feeney) baseball that includes signatures in blue ink from top stars such as Maury Wills, Don Sutton, Steve Garvey, Jim Gilliam, Al Downing, Mota, Davis and Russell. Even a young Bobby Valentine made it on to the ‘71 baseball. The majority of signatures are solid and rate 6-7/10.

Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
