Sanguillen was the number one catcher on the strong Pittsburgh Pirate teams of the early 1970's who won Eastern Division Championships in 1970, 1971, 1972, 1974, and 1975, taking the World Series title in 1971. An outstanding hitter, Sanguillen retired with a .296 average after 13 years in the majors.
