High grade NM-MT or better looking complete 1968 Topps Baseball set purchased by the consignor from Wholesale Cards Company back in 1968. Back then, each month a complete series would arrive, a solid brick of cards all assembled from vending boxes. While carefully putting the set into plastic pages for this auction, removing them from the metal filing cabinet where they have lain the last 50 years, it was easy to see that 95% or more appeared to be NM-MT to MINT or better, with the remainder almost all NM or better looking. We sent the top 9 cards to PSA for grading with the usual mixed results. Grades are: #45 Seaver(HOF) EX-MT PSA 6 (looks NM-MT 8(OC) to us), 50 Mays(HOF) MINT PSA 9, 110 Aaron(HOF) NM-MT PSA 8, 177 Ryan(HOF) NM PSA 7 (looks NM-MT or better to us), 230 Rose NM-MT+ PSA 8.5, 247 Bench(HOF) NM PSA 7 (looks NM-MT or better to us), 280 Mantle(HOF) NM PSA 7 (looks NM-MT or better to us), 480 Manager's Dream NM PSA 7 (looks NM-MT or better to us), 490 Super Stars NM+ PSA 7.5 (looks NM-MT or better to us). Two cards stood out as lesser condition and should be upgraded - #144 Morgan (ding on one corner) and 150 Clemente (off center with ding on left side). Also included are a NM-MT or better looking 1968 Topps Game complete set of 33 and 5 variations(#66 Cox VG, 192, 278, 356, & 518) Should be many more grading opportunities here. Incredible chance to pick up an extremely high grade example of this very condition conscious set from the collector who purchased in the year of issue. Almost $3000 in SMR value for the 9 graded cards alone.
