In 1967, Roger Maris was traded from the Yankees to St. Louis. As a result, the Topps card which designated him as a Yankee was only produced as a proof and was never issued. The regular issue listed him as a St. Louis Cardinal player. There was only a short supply of these cards known to exist, all ultimately sourced from the legendary Woody Gelman, a member of the Topps brain trust, who distributed a few to friends and collectors. The cards are blank backed and normally appear extremely off-centered, as is the case here. Centering aside, this is an ideal specimen of this mythical Topps rarity in Near Mint condition. Encapsulated as AUTHENTIC by PSA.
