The 1961-62 Fleer Basketball set is known for including the first mainstream basketball cards of many of basketball all-time greats such as Elgin Baylor, Wilt Chamberlain, Oscar Robinson and Jerry West. The 1961-62 set was the only major basketball collection issued by Fleer until the 1986-87 season. The 1961-62 Fleer set featured cards of 44 different players and consisted of 66 cards in total, thus cards 44-66 were action shots of players pictured elsewhere in the set. The key rookie cards for this set include: #8 Wilt Chamberlain, #16 Hal Greer, #23 Sam Jones, #36 Oscar Robertson, #44 Lenny Wilkins and #45 Paul Arizin. Other top cards in the set are #10 Bob Cousy, #19 Tom Heinsohn, #22 KC Jones, #23 Sam Jones, #28 Clyde Lovellette, #34 Bob Pettit, #38 Bill Russell, #39 Dolph Schayes and #43 Jerry West.

This lot features an authentic empty 1961-62 Fleer Basketball Wax Box in NM-MT 8 condition. The colorful box shows little wear suggesting it was safely stored and untouched for many years. Also included in this lot are the 24 unopened 1961-62 Fleer wax packs the box once held. Like the empty box, each of the 24 unopened wax packs were graded by GAI with seven of the packs registering NM-MT+ 8 grades; three of the packs being graded NM-MT 8; and 13 of the packs being recorded in NM+ 7.5 condition. This is a terrific find for any basketball card fan and/or historian and holds unlimited potential based on the possible contents of the various packs.
