Here then is one of the treasured artifacts of the modern era, a game-worn jersey hailing from one of perhaps the greatest team of that era, or certainly one of the most terrifying offensive juggernauts. After winning 109 regular-season games and the roaring through World Series, dumping the Cincinnati Reds in five games, the season will be remembered forever as the year of Mickey Mantle's and Roger Maris' chase of Babe Ruth's single-season home run record. Danny McDevitt was a member of that famed roster, wearing this sensational 1961 Yankees home pinstripe jersey in the early months of that historic season. The shirt features the "NY" logo on the left breast, McDevitt's No. 24 on the back, a "Spalding" manufacturer's tag on the front-left tail and adjacent size tag "42" directly above the chain-stitched "61." The laundry tag and year flag tag - "Set 1 1961" - are attached to the underside of the left-front tail. A white felt strip tag with "McDevitt" in blue chain stitch is inside the neck of the jersey. This shirt is all original, and exhibits game use.
