Playing on a ball club destined to have two members of the 500 Home Run Club and ultimately the Hall of Fame, Joe Adcock was still a feared presence in that formidable lineup and one of the era's most feared sluggers. He was, unfortunately, plagued by injuries for much of his career. He retired in 1966 with 336 home runs, 1,112 RBI and a .277 average. This amazing jersey is enhanced, as if it were needed, by its extraordinary status as one of the great designs of the era, in fact being one of the last years of the famed Tomahawk jersey style that had so clearly differentiated the boisterous Milwaukee Braves from their National League counterparts. The shirt is in super condition yet showing game use. The black felt Tomahawk is elegantly adorned with delicate gold-and-red stitching; the red felt script "Braves" on the front in red-on-black felt and his Adcock's No. 9 front and back are nothing less than sensational, as is the iconic Braves mascot patch on the left sleeve. The jersey carries the Wilson Size 44 tag on the front-left tail and a smaller white felt tag below has "1960 Set 1"; "Adcock" and "1960" are neatly embroidered in green stitching on separate felt tags on the collar. The shirt is all original and essentially problem free, with working zipper down the front and only the slightest bit of fraying of some of the stitching around the piping on the ends of the sleeves.
