In the 1960s, the Cincinnati Reds were one of baseball’s most competitive teams. They were also producing raw talent through their farm system and were bringing up many top-notch players, several of whom would go on to have Hall of Fame careers. Standouts like Pete Rose, Tony Perez, Johnny Bench, Lee May, Bernie Carbo, Hal McRae and Dave Concepcion, to name just some. This lot includes a pair of Cincinnati Reds home and away game-worn caps. Both Wilson professional model caps show considerable wear with the away cap showing the number 12 in black marker on the underside of the bill. A quick check on Reds’ players who wore the No. 12 during the 1960s reveals a list of six names: Billy Martin (1960); Gene Freese (1961-63); Bobby Klaus (1964); Art Shamsky (1965-67); Mack Jones (1968); and Darrell Chaney (1969).
