Gil McDougald, the 1951 American League Rookie of the Year, was an infielder who spent his entire career (1951 to 1960) with the New York Yankees. In 1959, at the age of 31, he collected 109 hits on his way to batting .251 for the season. The Yankees, meanwhile, finished third in the A.L. standings that year with a record of 79-75.

This lot features McDougald’s 1959 New York Yankees game-worn road jersey. The gray flannel jersey includes the Identification of his name and year "McDougald 1959" chain-stitched in navy blue on a felt nameplate in the collar. Proper tagging is present on the left front tail including the “Wilson” [size 42] manufacturer’s tag complete with washing instructions. Sewn boldly across the front of the jersey is “NEW YORK” in navy blue felt letters. McDougald’s uniform number “12” is sewn onto the back in large navy blue felt numbers that measure seven inches tall. Despite its age, the jersey remains in immaculate condition.
