Moose Skowron was an eight-time All-Star who held down first base for the Yankees though seven pennants and five World Championships. Though he played nine years for the Yankees, Skowron will forever be remembered for his performance in the 1958 World Series. The Yanks were facing the Milwaukee Braves who had embarrassed them the year before when they snatched the World Series away from the New Yorkers. Skowron made the last out in that Fall Classic debacle, and came into the '58 rematch eager to make amends. In Game 6 Moose knocked in a key insurance run in extra innings that turned out to be the game-winner. He followed that up in Game 7 by blasting a three-run homer that clinched both the game and the Series for New York.

This classic Yankees road jersey was worn by Skowron during that fateful 1958 season. The gray flannel road jersey has “NEW YORK” arched across the chest in navy felt with a Rawlings size 42 label sewn in the lower left front tail. A gray strip tag with “Skowron 58” is sewn inside the collar. Skowron’s number “14” has been removed and replaced with the number “67” presumably when it was recycled and issued the next year to a Spring Training hopeful. The jersey shows tremendous wear with several team repairs and stains from field contact and perspiration throughout. Loose threading is visible and several of the original buttons have been replaced. A hardcore gamer from the hero of the 1958 World Series.
