In 1955, the New York Yankees posted a regular-season record of 96–58 to win their 21st American League pennant, finishing three games ahead of the Cleveland Indians. Managed by Casey Stengel, the Yankees were then defeated in the World Series by the Brooklyn Dodgers in seven games. A year later, the Yankees secured their 22nd A.L. pennant and then returned the favor to the Brooklyn Dodgers by beating “Dem Bums” in another hard-fought seven-game Fall Classic. This was the World Series in which Yankees hurler Don Larsen threw a perfect game in Game 5.

This lot features a pair of pewter pieces signifying Christmas celebrations by the Yankees in both 1955 and ’56. The first item is a 1955 New York Yankees pewter Christmas tankard measuring five inches tall. It is specially engraved across the front with “CHRISTMAS - 1955” and includes a raised Yankees emblem just above the engraving. The bottom is stamped “8965 Made in England.” The second item is a 1956 New York Yankees pewter Christmas pitcher that stands seven inches tall and 6.5” wide. It is engraved “CHRISTMAS - 1956” across the front and also includes a raised Yankees emblem above the engraving. The bottom is stamped “PEWTER Made in Sheffield, England.”

Part of the esteemed Delbert Mickel estate collection.
