ADDENDUM: It has come to our attention that this photo was likely taken during the same photo shoot as Koufax's rookie card. in our opinion Koufax's eyebrows, the way the hat is sitting on his head and his hairline all point to his rookie card photo shoot!
Encapsulated and Authenticated Type 1 by PSA/DNA comes one of the most significant early images of the legendary Dodgers South Paw. This may just be the earliest photo of Sandy Koufax in a Dodgers uniform ever to surface. The 8" x 10" original Photograph titled "Koufax Signs" has been dated to some time in 1954 by PSA/DNA and features a crystal clear image of the happy go-lucky 19 year old Koufax wearing a fresh Brooklyn Dodgers jersey with the 1954 patch visible on the left arm of the jersey. This is one of the most rare and impossible to find earliest images of Koufax to surface. Some wear is evidenced by some discoloration on the white borders along with a 1-1/2" crease on the bottom left corner and a 3-1/4" crease along the bottom right corner. Other than those issues, there are hardly any problems anywhere else on the photo and the main image that extends from the bottom 1/3 of the photo on up is picture perfect. The reverse has some minor discoloring and blemishes from general handling over the years with a date stamped APR 18 1956 under a handwritten in pencil, "Sanford Koufax" and the number "52" just above. The 8" x 10" photo may be stamped 1956 but our friends at PSA/DNA have dated this to around the time Koufax signed with the Brooklyn National League club in December of 1954 and the 1954 patch again confirms that this photo is dated to his signing year. Rarities like this momento of the legendary Dodgers left hander and arguably greatest pitcher of all time don't surface every day.
