Original Type I photo of two Dodger greats, Jackie Robinson and Gil Hodges, taken before the start of the 1954 season at the club's Spring Training facility in Vero Beach, FL, long known as Dodgertown. This would be Jackie's sixth straight and final All-Star campaign. Hodges, on the other hand, was in his prime and about to have his best offensive season, setting career highs in batting average (.304), home runs (42) and RBI (130).
Captioned on the reverse with the United Press stamp, the black-and-white image shows the two teammates shaking hands in full uniform. It was recently announced that Hodges will [finally] be elected to the Hall of Fame this summer, adding even more value to this classic shot. We are unaware of another example exactly like this one circulating the market, making it a truly special piece. Well-centered within its clean white borders, it presents beautifully in clear focus with sharp corners and smooth edges. Only blemishes are two little paper-clip impressions on the left side and a tiny stain over Gil's shirt.
