Among the most consistent lead-off hitters in MLB history, Richie Ashburn was a solid centerfielder and clutch hitter for the Philadelphia Phillies. Compiling more hits than any other player in the 1950's, Ashburn batted over .300 during nine of his 15 seasons, twice capturing the National League batting title, and he concluded his career with a .308 lifetime average. His .303 average, 180 hits and N.L. leading 14 doubles in 1950, were the catalyst for the pennant winning 'Whiz Kids."

One of the rarest of all post-war Hall of Fame bats comes this 1952 Ashburn gamer which has sure seen its share of game action. The Hillerich & Bradsby Richie Ashburn professional model C31 bat (34", 33.1 oz.) exhibits evidence of outstanding use with a handle crack that has been secured with tape. Some grain swelling from repeated ball contact is on the back and front barrel and the knob is chipped on all sides. Numerous ball marks are visible on all sides of the barrel. Includes LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA (GU 6).
