Whitey Ford is perhaps the best pitcher the Yankees had during their glory years of the 1950s and 60s. This tremendous Type 1 photo captures a 21-year-old Ford in the waning days of the 1950 season. Ford, who was a mid-season callup, was an undefeated 8-0 when this portrait was snapped. His surprising debut helped propel the Yankees to their second consecutive pennant and prove to be a harbinger of the Hall of Fame career White Ford would go on to have. The front of the photo shows toning from age along with surface creasing through the lower-middle section of the print. There is a rough cut top white edge and a heavier tone towards the bottom of the photo. Despite these condition issues, this is the best photo of Whitey Ford taken during his triumphant rookie campaign. The reverse of the photo carries the Acme Newspictures stamping along with the original 9/22/50 dated caption slug. The photograph measures 7” x 8 1/2” and has been encapsulated and graded a Type 1 by PSA.
