Two years after Jackie Robinson famously broke baseball's color barrier, he won National League MVP honors and helped lead the Brooklyn Dodgers to the NL pennant. Jackie led the league in stolen bases (37) and batting average (.342) during that exciting 1949 season, while also reaching career-highs in RBI (124) and hits (203). This Spalding "Official League" baseball contains nine autographs from the '49 Dodgers, including Robinson and the man responsible for bringing him up to the big club, GM and team president Branch Rickey. Preacher Roe, Carl Furillo, Gene Hermanski, Bruce Edwards, Rex Barney, Ed Miksis and Joe Hatten have also signed the spot-toned and well-soiled ball. All signatures are done in blue ink averaging 6-7/10. It is super rare to find any autographed ball shared by the courageous athlete and visionary executive who changed the course of American history. And this example certainly ranks up there. (It should be noted that the last team ball we listed with both Robinson and Rickey sold for $8,294 back in 2014.) Includes full LOA from PSA/DNA and a glossy '49 team photo print.
