This offered 14-karat gold charm and tie bar was presented to rower Lloyd Butler after his University of California-Berkeley boat won the 1948 Pacific Coast Championship. This was the first championship race of the season coach Ky Ebright’s team won on their way to the IRA National Championships and U.S. Olympic Trials held later that summer. The same crew of eight won Nationals/Trials and would go on to win the gold medal at the '48 London Games to complete an impressive sweep.

The elegant design features two blue enameled oars crossed over a large gold Cal “C” on the front. The “C” is engraved with “PAC COAST CHAMPIONS 1948” and what appears to read "CUB-KEEPSIE CHAMPIONS." The reverse has been personalized with “L. BUTLER No. 4” engraved in the gold. Butler rowed in the #4 position in the eight oared shell boat. “LGB” and “14K” are hallmarked into the reverse. The charm is complete with its matching tie bar. A lovely piece that represents the victory that would eventually lead to the third and final Olympic gold medal winning team of Coach Ebright's remarkable career.

LOA from Butler family.
