This is a pair of 14K gold and enamel charms given to Lloyd Butler just after his US Rowing Team won the Gold in the Eight Oar Shells competition. The first piece features two gold and blue oars crossed over a gold “C.” The “C” represents Cal Berkley from which university the US Rowing Team was chosen. The “C” is engraved with “OLYMPIC CHAMPIONS LONDON 1948” and the reverse has been personalized with “L. BUTLER 4” engraved in the gold. An “LGB” and “14K” hallmark is stamped into the reverse. The companion piece is a simple gold and blue enamel oar matching the ones crossed on the “C” in the other piece. The oar is not engraved and shows no hallmark. Two very unique charms representing Butler’s Gold Medal at the London Games and acknowledging his Cal State alma mater.
