Offered here is Enos Slaughter’s 1942 players contract with the St. Louis Cardinals. Signed by Slaughter as well as executive Branch Rickey, the St. Louis Cardinals agreed to pay Slaughter $9,000 for his service on the team in ‘42 and it paid off in the long run with a World Series title. Slaughter had an impressive ‘42 season, racking up 9 homers, 98 RBI’s, including 188 hits while batting .318. He would come in 2nd place for NL MVP voting, behind teammate Mort Cooper. This would be Slaughter’s last season before a three-year hiatus from baseball to serve his country in WWII. Slaughter was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1985. This lot includes a separate letter, signed by Rickey that acknowledges that Slaughter received a pay increase of $1,000 for his 1942 season. Accompanied by a Slaughter Family LOA as well as a full LOA from PSA/DNA (Cert. #: AF08690).
