On Feb. 4, 1940, members of the New York Chapter of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America met at the Commodore Hotel in New York City for their Seventeenth Annual Dinner. There were several members of baseball royalty on hand including the incomparable Babe Ruth, eight-time National League batting champ Honus Wagner, National League President Ford Frick and American League President William Harridge. This lot features a unique baseball display in an elaborate frame that showcases a multi-signed banquet program from that evening signed in black ink by the aforementioned four as well as former President of the United States Herbert Hoover, who was also in attendance. The shadowbox display, which measures 36” wide by 32” high, showcases the prized autographed program flanked by perfectly positioned Perez-Steele Hall of Fame (3” x 6”) postcards of Ruth, Wagner, Harridge and Frick. A pair of 4” x 7” artist renderings of both Ruth and Wagner flank the program. An incredible collection of sought-after signatures all on one baseball banquet program!
