North Carolina native Enos “Country” Slaughter broke into the big leagues in 1938 and became a mainstay in the St. Louis Cardinals outfield. Although he had a decorated, Hall of Fame career as a 10 time All-Star and 4 time World Series champion (with both the Cardinals and Yankees), he is best remembered for his “Mad Dash” for the Cardinals, scoring the winning run to beat the Red Sox in the 1946 Fall Classic.

Presented here is Slaughter’s true rookie contract, signed in 1938. This contract paid Slaughter four hundred dollars a month, which probably seemed like a fortune for “Country” to be living his dream! A classic document based on that alone, it is incredibly counter-signed by legendary baseball executive Branch Rickey, then General Manager of the Cardinals.

Slaughter and Rickey both signed this National League Player’s Contract in 10/10 period black ink, as did a witness. An amazing one of a kind piece!

Letter of provenance from Slaughter family.

Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
