This lot features a 14-inch tall silver-plated trophy that sports a baseball player swinging through perched on top of a silver-plated baseball with the words “San Diego Union” engraved across the sweet spot. That was the name of the local daily newspaper before it became the San Diego Union Tribune. As part of the San Diego Hall of Champions Collection, this trophy was awarded to a local baseball player named David Curtis who was named MVP in 1937. The base of the trophy is engraved with the following text: “MOST VALUABLE BASEBALL PLAYER AWARD WON BY DAVID CURTIS 1937.” Research failed to turn up any pertinent information about this player from 80 years ago, but rest assured he was pretty good! The trophy weighs four pounds.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the San Diego Hall of Champions.
