They say pictures are worth a thousand words, and that's certainly the case with this classic shot of Lou Gehrig. The beloved Yankee legend is pictured perfectly with an affable expression on his face, grinning ear to ear with a touch of sunlight hitting his nose and chin, as his leans against his bat for the close-up portrait. Vintage original photographs of the Iron Horse in full uniform (in this case, his road grays) are in short supply and high demand among esteemed collectors. Taken by the Associated Press in 1936, the 7" by 9" photo captures Gehrig pre-game during one of his greatest seasons when he won his second and final AL MVP award (.354, 49 HR, 152 RBI, 167 runs, 130 walks, 1.174 OPS) and led the Bronx Bombers to their first World Series title in the post-Ruth era.

Easily one of the finer Gehrig photos we have offered, its condition is above average with some minor, angled creasing on the bottom corners. The resolution of the shot is so clear that you can even see the wrinkles in his flannel jersey and pants, making it ideal for photo-matching if this uniform has survived and out there somewhere. The reverse has the AP stamp dated "SEP 22 1936" with "Lou Gehrig Yankees" in pencil and some remnants of brown paper from previous display. Authenticated by PSA/DNA as Type I in one of their older holders.
