Featured here is a participation medal issued for the 1936 Winter Olympic Games held in the Bavarian Alps ski resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. Made of bronze, it measures 60 mm in diameter and was designed by Kunststickerei M. Jorres. The obverse shows the Olympic rings over an alpine summit surrounded by the German legend ["Olympische Winterspiele, 1936, Garmisch-Partenkirchen"]. The reverse has the Olympic motto ["Citius Altius Fortius"] over a fir branch. Encapsulated and graded MS-64 BN (https://www.ngccoin.com/coin-grading/grading-scale) in a lovely NGC holder, it presents beautifully. This is one the scarcest Olympic participation medals to collect as only 755 athletes competed at the '36 Winter Games and apparently just 1,660 of these were struck.
