Bennie Bengough played the majority of his Major League career as a catcher for the 1920’s Yankee dynasty, most notably as a reserve backstop on the famed Murderers' Row squad of 1927. In hobby circles however, his greatest claim to fame is leading off both the Goudey and World Wide Gum sets. Being the #1 card in the series comes with prestige but also makes the entry highly susceptible to wear and tear due to its increased exposure on the top of piles and at the front of orderly stacks. Bucking that trend, the presented example is graded NM 7 by PSA. The card exhibits vibrant color and a sharp image along with flawless registration. Centering favors slightly right to left and bottom to top. With only two in the pop report in this grade, this is a must have for any serious vintage collector or investor.
