Pete Jablonowski appears in both the 1933 Goudey and the 1939 and 1940 Play Balls sets – except under a different name in the latter. Pete had been bouncing around the majors for seven seasons with four different clubs when he was included in the 1933 Goudey set. After a few years in the minors he re-emerged as Pete APPLETON – “jablon” being the Polish word for “apple.” The name change brought him luck as he resurrected his career and played in the majors again from 1936 to 1945. This 1933 Goudey portrait is one of the finest in the hobby today. The color is bright, the back clean and the borders snow white and sharp. This card is graded a near-perfect PSA NM-MT 8 and there is only one other graded higher.
