Moe Berg is baseball’s most mysterious player. Fluent in seven languages, the Princeton graduate gave up a career in law to play baseball upon graduation in 1923. Originally an infielder, Berg re-invented himself as a catcher when all the White Sox backstops had been injured in 1926. Berg played for five teams in his fifteen year career, but it is as a spy that he became part of baseball legend. In the 1934 Tour of Japan, Berg secretly filmed military and strategic areas around Tokyo that were later given to the US military to use for identifying bombing targets in WWII. During the war Berg was an agent for the OSS, which later became the CIA. His 1933 Goudey card possesses great eye-appeal with its unique subtle background pattern that displays nicely in this PSA EX-MT 6 example.
