Of all the 1930s sets, the 1933 (for years it was mistakenly deemed a 1932 issue) US Caramel series is among the toughest to collect. The set was not widely distributed, and because a complete set was redeemable for awards, one card was short printed. Of the 32 cards, 27 are baseball players, and the star power is impressive. Almost everyone is a Hall of Famer, and that includes the greatest right-handed hitter of all-time, Rogers Hornsby. When this set was released, Hornsby was putting the finishing touches on his illustrious career which saw him batting an incredible .358 over 23 years. Twice he won both the Triple Crown and MVP Award and took home an incredible seven batting championships. Hornsby’s 1932 US Caramel card shows him with the St. Louis Browns, his portrait set against a vibrant red background. This example, graded a nearly impossible PSA NM 7, is slightly off center, but the corners are tight and colors crisp. There are only five copies graded NM 7 by PSA and an equal amount graded higher. Certainly one of the finest US Caramel Hornsby cards in existence. This card has been encapsulated by PSA and graded NM 7.
