In an effort to promote Babe Ruth as well as other leading baseball players from the 1920s, Christy Walsh, Ruth’s super-agent, developed the All-America Board of Baseball. Impressive certificates were issued to deserving ballplayers with Ruth's signature, along with those of a board of sports writers, until Ruth's death in 1948. Offered here is the 1931 Certificate awarded to Philadelphia Athletics Hall of Fame pitcher Lefty Grove. Grove wont 31 against just 4 losses with a 2.06 ERA in 1931, leading the Athletics to their 3rd straight American league Championship. The beautiful certificate is signed by Babe Ruth and sportswriters from the 10 cities representing major league baseball at that time. Ruth signature has faded some over the years but still rates a strong 5/10 and is easily readable. 12" by 16 1/2" certificate in very nice shape with some small pin holes along the top edge.

Includes a Letter of Provenance from the Helms Athletic Foundation/LA84 Collection.

Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
