Presented here is an Official Spalding Resilite Ervin "Pete" Fox model baseball bat that has been blessed with the most famous and coveted autograph in sports. According to accompanying documentation the bat was originally sourced from the Fox estate and is purported to have been game used by Pete Fox while playing for the Detroit Tigers in the 1930's. During his tenure with the Tigers, Fox and the Babe faced each other on numerous occasions when the Tigers played the Yankees. During one game, Pete is said to have grabbed this bat, which was broken beyond repair, and asked Babe to sign it for him, which Ruth did obligingly. The bat does show evidence of game use including tape residue and vintage nails utilized to repair the handle crack, however this aspect of the bat is secondary to its prestigious presentation of the Babe’s autograph on the back of the barrel. Ideally positioned, Ruth’s black ink signature rates 7 out of 10 under a light application of shellac, which has preserved it beautifully. Relative to other Ruth signed mediums, the population of Ruth signed bats is minute. Includes a full LOA from PSA/DNA (Auto.).
