Featured here is an original Type I photograph of the great Walter Johnson taken in 1929, his first season managing his beloved Washington Senators. The Big Train played his entire 21-year career in the nation’s capital, retiring in 1927 as the most dominant pitcher in MLB history.
Pictured with an intense stare, Johnson sports a Senators cap and team jacket in one of the best portraits we’ve ever seen of him. The back has a short caption and is stamped April 16, 1929 by NEA. There’s a left corner crease and a couple minor surface wrinkles in this otherwise immaculate, well-centered and perfectly-focused portrait of a baseball legend.
